Our first full day in Quebec has been less than stellar. We drove for six hours from Baie de Comeau to the Parc national des Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Riviere-Malbaie only to discover... NO DOGS ALLOWED!!! After traveling and hiking in national parks through all but two of Canada's provinces and territories with Roxanne (who has been welcomed not only in the national and provincial parks but also on their hiking trails), today we discovered that Quebec has a different set of rules than every other province in Canada's confederation. Quebec does not allow dogs even to enter their "national" parks. Although the park ranger spoke French and extremely little English, she even refused to let Roxanne in as a service dog.
We have been to three visitor centers and have half a dozen brochures and guides for Quebec national parks and camping. Not one mentioned that dogs are not allowed.
So, tonight we sit in a commercial campground near St. Paul, mapping a new route for the remainder of our adventure that does not include Quebec. Au revoir... adios... goodbye!
We welcome you to join our adventure! Our 2010 trip to Alaska was Mission Transition into retirement. With such a fantastic experience, we now have the bug and plan to keep the blog up and running, posting more photos, occasionally waxing rhapsodic, and... most importantly... sharing more adventures! For those of you just joining us, we are overlanders or expedition campers. We travel in a spartan rig to remote locations, venturing off road as often as possible.
