Our trip down the Alaskan Highway has been nostalgic. We found wood bison near Liard Hot Springs. Our buffalo gal, Roxanne, absolutely loves the smell of bison!
At Muncho Lake, we found a few sheep, caribou, and more rain clouds.
Then we had a must stop at the Tetsa Lodge to split one of their legendary decadent sticky buns.
Surprisingly, after Fort Nelson, traffic began to pick up substantially on this two-lane road. With a boom in oil and gas, it felt like we were back in Houston traffic, dodging all of the big rigs hauling equipment. We quickly decided that next time we will opt for taking the Cassier Highway to avoid the traffic.
With all the heavy equipment running up and down the road all night long, our favorite campground, Mile Marker Zero, in Dawson Creek was less than restful. We wonder how long this remote area will remain remote. Change comes so quickly these days, it seems!
Today we head for Jasper in search of elk in rut... and, hopefully, a break in the rain!
