Adventure Junkies

We know that you’ve seen it also… we’re blogging about food and scenery… something that was more of a sideline to our former posts. The truth is, in spite of the beauty that we have seen, we feel too comfortable this year.  The greatest uncertainty that we have faced so far is traveling the highways.  Every person has their definition of insanity and adventure… and we're looking for a tad more than we've experienced thus far.

The truth is, I fear that David and I have become adventure junkies.  We have been blessed to spend the vast majority of our years together living extraordinary lives.  We have lived in six states and a foreign country.  We have traveled to 49 of the 50 states, most of Canada and Mexico, and a good portion of Europe.  In the process, we have literally been amazed at what life has to offer if you simply take the risk.  We have had brown bears parade 15 feet from our vehicle, showered in a bison stampede, had bazookas launched a block from our house during a Mexican military coup, flown over the Yucatan jungle in a single engine plane that was leaking oil, were offered communion by a dear friend priest of ours at the tomb of Saint Peter in the Vatican, marveled at amazing northern lights, followed trails of moonlight while sailing in the Gulf of Mexico, had large animals sniffing at the base of our backpacking tent deep in the Bitterroot Valley, and hiked five days into the Rocky Mountain wilderness to see the top of a vista few have been privileged to witness.  (These are just a few of our stories… we know that you have had your great adventures, too!)

It’s not like we’re Delta Force guys or Rangers who get dropped into the middle of the jungle to save someone or to run surveillance for advancing forces… those folks are our heroes.  We, quite simply, love to live in the uncertainty of what is around the next bend...  following gravel trails with no services for hundreds of miles in an area where we are not top of the food chain.  That is now our quest.  Perhaps we have just not found those places yet while following our east coast trail but our search now begins in earnest.

We feel blessed to have had the opportunity to visit with our friends and family during this trip.  And as beautiful as New England is with its clapboard houses, history, and lovely harbors, we are headed north as far as we can go… hoping to find remoteness and wildness and critters larger than rabbits.

So adieu, dear friends.  We pray that the next post you receive from us will offer the adventure and excitement that we treasure and hope to share with you!

God bless.
