Moosehead Lake, Maine |
Traveling to Moosehead Lake, we actually saw a moose! She appeared to be a yearling cow. Unfortunately, she was crossing the road and
quickly disappeared into the dense forest before I could even reach for the
camera.
We set up camp at Lily Bay State Park and felt fortunate to
get one of the two remaining nonreservable campsites. The campground sits right on beautiful Lily
Bay. We hiked down to the boat dock and
let Rox in for a swim.
The next day we visited the small town of Greenville and
took advantage of their Laundromat. With
the weather being so warm, we are really going through the clothes! We also discovered a new and delicious treat…
lobster rolls! We stopped by a small
seafood restaurant and had their lunch plate of lobster stew and lobster rolls,
chunks of lobster mixed with mayonnaise and served on a roll. Delicious!
We drove around, looking for vista overlooks and more moose,
but they remained elusive. The largest critters I photographed were a flock of geese. The search continues...
After a
thoroughly enjoyable stay, we leave now for Acadia National Park near Bar
Harbor, Maine.
Don't know your route, but if you go through Kittery on your way back through - hit up Warren's just before the bridge into Portsmouth. BEST food around.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the tip, Heather! We're now headed north, as far as the roads will take us... but we'll definitely put Warren's on our future "to do" list!
