Goodbye to Maine

Ellsworth was our last staging ground in the U.S. before entering Canada.  We stopped by a Walmart to pick up some fresh batteries for the Zodi (our on-demand hot water heater for showering) and a few fresh groceries.  From there, we took a lovely tour along Highway 186, stopping at the Harbor Girl Café in Winter Harbor for another lobster roll.  We drove down to the harbor for a picturesque picnic lunch.

After connecting back up with Highway 1, we passed several fields of wild blueberries.  We drove through the little town of Lubec, the furthermost eastern city in the U.S.

We spent our last night in Maine at the lovely Cobscook Bay State Park in the Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge.  Our campsite was large, primitive, and remote… just the kind that we most enjoy.  As a wonderful bonus, they even have showers.

The temperatures are slowly beginning to drop.  This morning, we were at 60 degrees.  Yesterday’s highs were in the mid 80s… not sweatshirt weather yet, but at least sleeping is getting more and more comfortable.  The humidity readings remain in the upper 80s and above.  Unfortunately, the mosquito population has not abated either.

This morning we will top off the gas tank in Calais before entering New Brunswick and Canada.  Hopefully, we will also be able to find internet service so that we can post this blog.  Tomorrow a new portion of our odyssey begins as we travel toward the Bay of Fundy and beyond.
