At one point, driving on a sparsely traveled area in Wyoming, we hit a tremendous crosswind. Both David and I heard a pop. I checked all the mirrors and yelled, “We just lost the tent!”
It sailed a good thirty feet behind the truck and rolled in the middle of our lane. I hastily turned around. Thankfully, only a few cars had to maneuver around the tent before David was able to retrieve it. No harm done, but it certainly did offer an adrenaline rush!
Just moments before entering the park, we were blessed to see a large black bear scurrying up the very steep mountain face to our right. I was able to free the camera just in time to catch a few shots of him turning to peer back at us, just as he went into the forest.
The campgrounds closest to the entrance were nearly full. With only three sites left, we chose a rather exposed site at Rising Sun campground because we were simply too tired to look any further.
Setting up the tent took longer than we had hoped. Before the job was complete, we had donned sweatshirts to ward off the chill. Gray clouds settled over us.
All of us are tired of driving. We plan to spend two nights here to stretch out and relax a bit. We have logged a total of 1920 miles in the past three days. We will sleep well tonight.
PS There are no internet sites here in the park, so these posts will upload when we can connect.
